Rock Hall Report

Another weekend in paradise, with balmy steady tradewinds and sparkling blue water (at least in the pool).  How steady were the winds?  On the second and third races Saturday, our elapsed times were only 3 seconds different (over two laps and 30+ minutes); the next two one-lap races saw our times change by 1 second!  The winds blew all night, too, making camping very enjoyable, and keeping the bugs off during the dinner and live music.  The rockfish chowder was great!  Only 5 open class cats, but 9 A-Cats and a bunch of 505s on our course, with Lasers and 4-5 other classes on a second course.  Very active RC with LONG courses and upwind finishes at the windward mark; no mercy on us fast boats with 5 races Saturday and 4 on Sunday.  Special kudos to George Kuney, who loaned out his Frankenboat H18 to Glenn Ross, who then beat George for the weekend.  That has got to be the fastest ugly boat, or ugliest fast boat, that I have ever seen. J  I had great upwind speed and excellent crew work from Colette as usual that let us stay in front all weekend; the green sail is history!  Alex Lefur and Joe Kasier were fast when they actually managed to start…

Rock Hall is a nice low-key yacht club, with a two cats-at-once beach, one crane, one ramp, and a huge open lawn that was only partly filled with cars and trailers.  Nice bathrooms and outdoor showers, and a bar with hustling bartenders.  Friendly people and a lot of familiar faces from West River and PRSA.  Local places in Rock Hall for meals and ice, but going all the way back to Chestertown for breakfast at Ellen’s was worthwhile.  We also took advantage of the movie theater there Friday night to extend our AC time.  Definitely a must-do for next year.
